CTAs –– or calls-to-action –– are a distinct language used in your site that encourages your visitor to do something, to take a desired action. Most of the time, that desired action is a click taking them to more information. For instance, on Facebook, most of the ads you see have a CTA to download more or read more. The CTA there is to click.

For ecommerce sites, however, the most common CTA is “Buy Now,” resulting in a conversion that produces revenue.

When done correctly, CTAs draw in people’s attention and act as a breadcrumb trail, leading customers further down your conversion funnel. The ultimate goal of an ecommerce CTA is to get the potential customer to buy when they’re ready. Now, not all of your customers are currently in a ready-to-buy mode, but there are things you can do, and CTAs you can use, to make sure you stay top of mind for when they are ready to purchase.
